Appearance in "Kill or Be Killed" Edit
McCrane was already in Ultra when John Young was recruited. The two of them became friends, rising through the ranks together. Later, McCrane became part of the Annex Project, designed to weaponize Ultra agents. The process allowed him to overcome the Prime Barrier but also drove him mad, causing him to go on the run.
He resurfaced years later, setting off a string of bombings that led to New York, where he accessed Ultra's files to find out why John had stopped hunting him. In a final confrontation, John revealed that he too was no longer bound by the Prime Barrier before shooting McCrane dead. John buried his body, but told everyone that McCrane had simply run off.
In an Access Hollywood intervew, Dohring said of his character: "Killian's sort of the dark version of John, so him and John are both sort of — in a sick way — both children of Jedikiah, who sort of saved us when we were young, raised us and transformed us and so we both sort of deal with it in a different way."
On McCrane's motivation, he said: "John's sort of like, he seeks the separation of humans and I just wanna like, wipe ‘em off the face of the planet you know?"
